Utah Dog Training Group Classes

Group obedience classes are an intensely fun, affordable, family friendly dog training experience. They offer the opportunity to work with your dog around many other distracting dogs, people, etc. that you just can’t get anywhere else. We price our group classes competitively with the largest dog training organizations in the country for unrivaled value. Dollar for dollar, our group classes provide the best training for your money in the state.
All dogs are welcome in AMPSK9 group classes. However, if you find yourself feeling that due to temperament, physical ability, or specialized training requirements, a group class setting is not a good fit for you and your dog, we encourage you to investigate our Private Training, Board and Train, or Day Camp arrangements instead.

Open Obedience is an advanced course for dogs well started in on-and off-leash obedience. This class is designed to build on a dog’s foundational training to produce a high degree of off-leash control in Ring, Home, and Field environments.
At the core of Open Obedience is the instruction of a Trained Retrieve. Taught as a Duty instead of a game, Trained Retrieving imparts a dog with a seriousness of purpose that improves reliability and sureness in all areas, and our step-by-step method guarantees results even for dogs with no natural retrieving desire.
Other components of Open Obedience include Free Heeling, Command Discrimination at Distance (“Whoa,” “Down,” and “Sit,”), Remote Down in Motion, Out of Sight Stays, and Obstacle Clearance (Up and Over, and Across).
Trained holistically, Open Obedience vastly improves your dog’s working character and enhances your enjoyment of the relationship. The combination of skills and the method employed to train them not only makes for an excellent companion dog, but also “opens” the dog’s mind to receiving specialized training in many disciplines.
Open Obedience is recommended for:
- Gundogs
- Disability Service
- Detection/Scent Work
- Search and Rescue
- Competition Obedience
- Agility
- Protection
- Tracking Dogs
- Therapy Dogs
- Picture Dogs
- Hunt Test
- Retriever/Spaniel/Pointer Field Trial
- Anything that requires reliable off-leash control
This class meets weekly for 12 lessons including the Graduation Exercise and is $299.00, payable on enrollment. A novice level of on-and off-leash control is required to participate, whether through AMPSK9, another school, or DIY at home. You may be asked to provide a demonstration of competency prior to admission.
